I have been engaged as a first tenor in the chorus of the Zürich Opera since February of 1998. During this time, we have presented more than 136 different operas, with an average of 115 performances per season ( Homoki Intendanz 2012-present ) / 180 performances per season ( Pereira Intendanz 1998-2012 ) . I have had several solos during this period, served a brief term as assistant vorstand, and have rehearsed the chorus as dance captain on several occasions. We have toured to Tokyo, London, Paris, Rome, and Vienna, and appear on many DVDs showing performances from Opernhaus Zürich.

In my ( extremely limited : it is very hard to get time off during our 11 month season ) spare time, I picked up free lance work  with various churches, choirs, and orchestras, performed with our tenor trio Tenors First ( often on the M.S.Deutschland ) and swiss pocket opera, and helped create performances with Operinos to benefit the Kinderkrippe at the Opera House. Both groups can be contacted at the web pages that following for booking enquiries.

Before arriving in Zürich, I was a full time solo singer based in New York City for 7 years, singing all over the United States and in Wexford,Ireland, Toulon,France, and Giessen,Germany in a variety of leading tenor roles  ... I trained at the Resident Artist Training Program at Tri Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York ( where I also earned a Masters of Music degree in Operatic Performance in the associated academic program ) and did my apprenticeship program at the Lake George Opera Festival in New York State.

Special Skills

I tend to be a good sight reader, and learn music quickly (  I have noticed that text memorization takes a bit more time these days ). My strengths are a particular attention to clear diction, dynamic sensibility, rhythmical precision ( especially regarding cutoffs ) and maintaining tempo.  My voice tends to carry well, and I am therefore usually a leader in my section. My extreme upper range ( B natural, C + ) is more of a supported falsetto today, but I am still able to manage up to a Bb with a full voice. My best languages for singing are German, Italian, and English, and I have a lot of experience ( with phonetic help ) with French and Russian. I am also familiar with singing in Latin with the German as well as the Italianate pronunciations.

I am an enthusiastic actor ( with some age related physical limitations ), have a strong stage presence, and have surprisingly good movement skills despite my weight.

I enjoy concert appearances for oratorios and cantatas, and am particularly fond of singing Bach and Händel. I also enjoy singing in church settings, both as a soloist and as a "ringer" for a chorus.

In addition to performing, I have helped "create", direct, and choreograph our childrens programs, and have arranged music ( for voices, not piano or instruments ) for our tenor trio and childrens shows as well and transposed and arranged several pieces for colleagues as well ( with Finale ).

My native language is English, I speak relatively good German and Italian, and I understand some French.

OBJECTIVE

I am looking to augment my current full time job with Opernhaus Zürich with more free lance work in my free time, in preparation for my retirement in 2023.

I want to continue to to sing for as long as I am able after beginning retirement : solo appearances ( or duet/trio/quartet/small ensemble ) with orchestras, choirs, and church choruses, and recital work particularly interest me. I also would like to do more professional choir singing  for ensembles ( opera houses, concert halls, and churches ) .

I also want to continue to explore the related fields of music adaptation and arrangement, direction, and choreography as alternatives to singing.

I look forward to having the opportunity to audition for you in the near future : thank you for your attention.
